What line striping covers
Line striping is the trade name for painting the layout a lot runs on: parking stalls, drive aisle lines, arrows, crosswalks, fire lanes, and accessible spaces. The same crews and paint handle asphalt lots and warehouse floors. The parking lot striping page walks through how a restripe actually runs, and pavement markings covers everything that is not a stall line.
What line striping costs
In central Maryland, restriping an existing layout generally runs $4 to $7 per stall, with new layouts about double and stencils itemized on top. Per stall math misleads more than it helps, though, which is why we wrote the numbers up properly in line striping cost in Maryland.
How often lines need repainting
Every 18 to 36 months for most Maryland lots. Sun, snowplow blades, and daily traffic gray lines out, and once stripes fade, parking gets sloppy and accessible stalls stop reading as reserved. A sealcoat resets the clock entirely, since it buries every marking on the lot; the right sequence is in sealcoating or striping first.
The rule a repaint triggers
Restriping legally reopens accessible parking. Under ADA.gov's restriping guidance, a repainted lot must meet the current 2010 ADA Standards for counts, dimensions, aisles, and signage. The ADA compliance page has the tables, and every quote here includes the check automatically.
